Typhonium giganteum, 50cm, a rarely seen, fully winter hardy Chinese aroid from mountain woods in the Yunnan province. A spectacular species with large yellowish green, very ornamental, broad oval arrowhead-shaped leaves (up to 30cm in length!) and a utmost strongly "perfumed" narrow, dark maroon spathe and spadix. The "perfume" of the inflorescence corresponds to the size of the leaves: it is so strong you simply cannot ignore it, neither will your neighbours! Fortunately this will last only for some two to three days. For any rich, well drained soil in a sunny to partially shaded spot in the garden with some good winter protection. Plants come into growth very late in the year (around end of June to July in Central Europe). Typhonium giganteum Engl.
