[Sesquiterpenes from stems of Schisandra henryi var. henryi].[Pubmed: 28920347]

The dried stems of Schisandra henryi var. henryi were extracted with 95% ethanol and the extracts were further subjected to partition, affording the ethyl acetate extracts(EtOAc Extrs.).The EtOAc Extrs.were separated and purified with silica gel and octadecyl-silylated silica gel column chromatography, preparative HPLC and preparative TLC. Thirteen known compounds were obtained and identified by spectral methods including MS and NMR, all of which were elucidated as t-cadinol(1), cadinane-4β,5α,10β-triol(2), cadinane-5α, 10α-diol-2-ene(3), oxyphyllenodiols A(4), 1β, 4β-dihydroxyeudesman-11-ene(5), cyperusol C(6), (7R)-opposit-4(15)-ene-1β,7-diol(7), dysodensiol E(8), epi-guaidiol A(9), aromadendrane-4β,10β-diol(10), tricyclohumuladiol(11), caryolane-1,9β-diol(12), and guaidiol A(13). Compounds 3, 5-10, and 13 were separated from the genus for the first time, while compounds 1-13 were separated from this species for the first time.

Henrischinins A-C: three new triterpenoids from Schisandra henryi.[Pubmed: 21348450]

Three novel triterpenoids, henrischinins A-C (1-3), featuring the unique motif of a 3-one-2-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]-octane, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra henryi. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, and the absolute configuration of 2 was confirmed by a single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1 and 2 showed weak cytotoxicity against HL-60 cell lines.

Two new lignans from Schisandra henryi.[Pubmed: 19336937]

Two new lignans, henricines A (1) and B (2), were isolated along with the eight known lignans, ganshisandrine (3), wulignan A(2) (4), epiwulignan A(1) (5), deoxyschisandrin (6), wulignan A(1) (7), epischisandrone (8), schisantherin A (9), and schisandrol A (10), from the stems of Schisandra henryi. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated based on the spectral analysis, including 1D and 2D NMR experiments.

Pollination of Schisandra henryi (Schisandraceae) by female, pollen-eating Megommata species (Cecidomyiidae, Diptera) in south-central China.[Pubmed: 17237212]

The mutualistic interaction between insects and flowers is considered to be a major factor in the early evolution of flowering plants. The Schisandraceae were, until now, the only family in the ANITA group lacking information on pollination biology in natural ecosystems. Thus, the objective of this research was to document the pollination biology and breeding system of Schisandra henryi.

Separation and determination of lignans from seeds of Schisandra species by micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography using ionic liquid as modifier.[Pubmed: 16007996]

In this paper, a micellar electrokinetic chromatographic (MEKC) method using ionic liquid as modifier for the quantification of the active components of lignans found in the medicinal herbs Schisandra species was developed for the first time. Preliminary investigations employing sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as surfactant did not lead to the necessary resolution of the studied compounds, the addition of ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (BMIM-BF4) to the SDS micellar system resulted in the complete separation of all the compounds. The effects on the separation by several parameters such as BMIM-BF4 and SDS concentration, applied voltage, background electrolyte pH and concentration, were evaluated. Under the optimal conditions (5 mM borate-5 mM phosphate buffer in the presence of 20 mM SDS and 10 mM BMIM-BF4, pH 9.2, applied voltage 25 kV and detection at 254 nm), the method successfully applied to the determination of lignans in extracts of Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baill. and Schisandra henryi C.B. Clarke in less than 13 min. The separation mechanism was also discussed.

Lignans from Schisandra hernyi with DNA cleaving activity and cytotoxic effect on leukemia and Hela cells in vitro.[Pubmed: 15893434]

The lignans, gomisin G (1), schisantherin A (2), benzoylgomisin Q (3) and isoanwulignan (4) were isolated from the stems of Schisandra henryi. Compound 1 showed moderate DNA strand scission activity and significant cytotoxic effect on leukemia and Hela cells in vitro. Compound 1 represents a new type of DNA strand scission agent.

Triterpenoids from Schisandra henryi with cytotoxic effect on leukemia and Hela cells in vitro.[Pubmed: 14661856]

Four known lanostane triterpenoids, schiprolactone A (1), schisanlactone B (2), nigranoic acid (3) and schisandronic acid (4) were isolated from the stems of Schisandra henryi for the first time. Their structures were characterized by IR, MS and NMR techniques. Compounds 1, 2 and 4 showed moderate cytotoxic activity against Leukemia cells in vitro. Cytotoxic activity of compounds 1-4 showed IC50 of 0.0097, 0.01, 0.097 and 0.0099 micromol/mL respectively toward Leukemia cells and IC50 of 0.097, 0.1, 0.097 and 0.099 micromol/mL toward Hela cells respectively. It is the first report that these compounds possess cytotoxic activity on Leukemia and Hela cells.

Henricine, a New Tetrahydrofuran Lignan from Schisandra henryi.[Pubmed: 17345420]

A new tetrahydrofuran lignan, named henricine ( 1), was isolated from the stems of SCHISANDRA HENRYI. High resolution COSY spectrum was used in the structural elucidation.
