Flash Extraction and Physicochemical Characterization of Oil from Elaeagnus mollis Diels Seeds.[Pubmed: 28239062]

A flash extraction method was used to isolate Elaeagnus mollis oil (EMO). The optimal extraction parameters, sample/solvent ratio and extraction temperature, were determined to be 1:10 (g/mL) and 40°C, respectively. Especially, the extraction yield reached 49.30% when the extraction time was as short as 2 min. No obvious difference was observed in fatty acid composition, iodine value, saponification number, total phenolic content and tocopherol content between flash-extracted EMO and Soxhlet-extracted EMO, but their physicochemical values were lower than those of cold-pressed EMO. Cold-pressed EMO had higher oxidation stability, DPPH (1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) and hydroxyl radical-scavenging activities than flash-extracted EMO and Soxlet extracted EMO. The flash extraction is demonstrated to be an alternative, efficient method for the vegetable oil production.

Physicochemical Properties and Fatty Acid Profiles of Elaeagnus mollis Diels Nut Oils.[Pubmed: 26632946]

The physicochemical properties, fatty acid profiles, content of tocopherol and sterol of the oils extracted from the nuts of Elaeagnus mollis Diels grown in different regions of China were studied in this work. The results indicated that the Elaeagnus mollis Diels nut oils contained about 0.2% sterols and the tocopherol contents were in the range of 119.6-128.6mg/100g. The nut oils were all rich in unsaturated fatty acids, especially oleic acid and linoleic acid. Furthermore, the main triacylglycerols species of the nut oils were all dilinoleoyl-monoolein (LOL), dioleoyl-monolinoleoyl (OLO) and trilinoleate (LLL). This work might be useful for developing applications for Elaeagnus mollis Diels nut oil.

Population structure and genetic variation of the endangered species Elaeagnus mollis Diels (Elaeagnaceae).[Pubmed: 26125794]

Elaeagnus mollis Diels is a group of shrubs and dwarf trees endemic to China and are endangered plants. However, the reason why these plants are endangered remains controversial. The current study aimed to explore the endangered status of E. mollis from a genetic perspective and to propose conservation strategies for this species. Using 16 polymorphic allozyme loci, the population genetic structure was investigated for three populations representing the taxa and variants. The variants exhibited relatively high levels of genetic variation compared to other woody shrubs with similar geographic distributions. The overall genetic diversity (HE = 0.352) was elevated compared to long-lived woody angiosperms. The average number of alleles per locus (A), percentage polymorphic loci (P), and observed heterozygosity (HO) were 2.0, 85.2, and 0.371, respectively. Furthermore, gene flow estimates within the population groups were also elevated. The life history and habitats of E. mollis play major roles in the levels of genetic diversity. The results of this study may help to device strategies for preserving the genetic diversity of E. mollis and for promoting planting.

[Determination of 8 elements in Elaeagnus mollis by AAS].[Pubmed: 16827368]

Eight kinds of trace elements of Elaeagnus mollis were determinated with flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry method. The result shows that there is evident difference of the trace elements in different organs and growing stages. The trace element is plentiful in this kind of plant, specially in root, leaf and seed.
