Analyze the regulation mechanism of rice grain shape and glume development
On July 29th, our Germplasm Innovation Group published a research paper entitled "AH2 encodes a MYB domain protein that determines hull fate and affects grain yield and quality in rice" online in the Plant Journal. The in-depth analysis of the regulation mechanism of rice grain shape and internal and external sputum development.
1000-grain weight is one of the three elements of rice yield, and grain shape is an important agronomic trait that determines 1000-grain weight. This study identified a new allelic mutant ah2 of sll1, which has the characteristics of small grain size, degeneration of internal sputum and homologous transformation of silicified cells in the outer layer of the gland into inner vesicular cells. Small causes the internal and external space to shrink. Further studies have found that the AH2 gene plays a key role in regulating grain size and quality and cell development in the outer layer of the glume. The grain size, including yield and quality, can be improved by designing the size of the inner and outer gills.
The research was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Natural Science Foundation of Zhejiang Province. Ren Deyong, Associate Researcher, Dr. Cui Yuanjiang and Dr. Hu Haitao were the co-first authors of the paper. Qian Qian, a researcher and Ren Deyong, a co-reporter.
