Two new iridoid glucoside tetramers, Dipsanoside A (1) and dipsanoside B (2), the first-reported iridoid tetramers with four glucosides, were isolated from Dipsacus asper.
METHODS AND RESULTS:
Their structures were determined by analysis of 1D and 2D NMR data as well as by comparison with model compounds. Their cytotoxicities were tested, but neither of them showed obvious activity.

Description

Dipsanoside A is a novel tetrairidoid glucoside from Dipsacus asper. Dipsacus asper Wall., a perennial plant widespread in China, has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for hundreds of years as a tonic for refreshment, as a fissiparism promoter of the osseous cells, and as an embryo security agent, etc.
