Antifeeding constituents of Phellodendron chinense fruit against Reticulitermes speratus.

Methanol and hexane extracts from the fruit of Phellodendron chinense which showed antifeedant activity against the rhinotermitid Reticulitermes speratus were isolated and identified as N-methylflindersine and melianone. N-methylflindersine showed significantly higher antifeedant activity and caused mortality more rapidly than melianone. Other compounds isolated from the fruit (niloticin, friedelin, Phellochin and 4,10-dimethylene-7-isopropyl-5(E)-cyclodecenol) showed no antifeedant activity.
