Aragoside and iridoid glucosides from Aragoa cundinamarcensis.[Pubmed:12943770]

From the water-soluble part of an extract of Aragoa cundinamarcensis were isolated seven iridoid glucosides, namely aucubin, catalpol, rehmannioside D, Globularin, gardoside methyl ester, epiloganin and mussaenoside. The main glycoside isolated, however, was a new caffeoyl phenylethanoid triglycoside, named aragoside, containing two beta-gluco- and one alpha-arabinopyranosyl moieties which constituted almost 5% of the dry weight of the plant. Finally, sorbitol was found to be the main carbohydrate constituent of the plant. This distinctive combination of compounds is very similar to that reported from some species of Plantago. The present findings therefore support the results from a recently published molecular phylogenetic study of plastid and nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences, where Aragoa was found to be the closest relative to Plantago so far discovered.

Iridoid glucosides from the aerial parts of Globularia alypum L. (Globulariaceae).[Pubmed:16394555]

From the hydromethanolic extract of the aerial parts of Globularia alypum grown in Morocco, a new chlorinated iridoid glucoside, globularioside has been isolated beside 5 known iridoid glycosides, Globularin, globularicisin, globularidin, Globularinin and globularimin. This is the first report of a chlorinated iridoid in G. alypum and in the Globulareaceae. Unlike all other known 7-chlorinated iridoid glucosides where the chlorine atom exhibits an alpha configuration, globularioside incorporate the chlorine atom as a 7beta substituent. The structures of the isolated compounds were established on the basis of ESI-MS, MS-MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectral analysis.

[Studies on chemical constituents from herb of Hemiphragma heterophyllum].[Pubmed:15706915]

OBJECTIVE: To study the chemical constituents from Hemiphragma heterophyllum. METHOD: The constituents were isolated and purified by chromatographic technology and their structures were elucidated by physico-chemical evidence and spectral data. RESULT: Eight compounds were isolated and identified as hemiphroside C (I), plantainoside E (II), hemiphroside A (III), acetoside (IV), Globularin (V), 10-(Z)-cinnamoyl-catapol (VI), iso-scrophularioside (VII), cinnamic acid (VIII). CONCLUSION: Compound I was a new phenylethanoid glucoside and compounds II and VI were isolated for the first time from this plant.
